Privacy

Omabib is a reference manager that runs on your computer. It has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. We don't receive your data, so we can't sell, share or lose it.

1Your library stays on your computer

References, notes, clips, chats and the PDFs Omabib downloads are stored in a folder on your computer, ~/.local/share/omabib. Omabib never sends them to us.

2Sync uses your own storage

Sync is optional. When you turn it on, Omabib copies your references, notes and PDFs from your computer straight to storage you choose, using rclone on your computer. Nothing passes through us, and the sign-in tokens stay on your computer.

  • Google Drive drive.fileOmabib can see and change only the files and folders it creates, in My Drive → Omabib. Nothing else in your Drive.
  • Dropbox App folderOmabib sees only its own folder, Dropbox → Apps → Omabib.
  • OneDrive via rcloneSign-in goes through rclone’s Microsoft app, which asks for access to your OneDrive files. Omabib reads and writes only OneDrive → Omabib.
  • A synced folder or other storage your choiceOmabib writes to the folder or remote you pick, and that tool’s own terms apply.

Omabib's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google Drive is used only to sync your Omabib library between your own computers. It is not used for advertising, not used to train AI models, and not read by people.

3Looking up papers

When you add a paper or ask for its details, Omabib sends the paper's identifier or title to public scholarly services. When it fetches an open-access PDF, it downloads it from the publisher or repository that hosts it. Those services see an ordinary request from your computer, and their own privacy policies apply.

4AI chat

Chat runs Claude Code or Codex on your computer, under your own Anthropic or OpenAI account, with the paper you chose. What those tools send is governed by your agreement with that company. Omabib sends nothing to them itself and has no access to your account.

5Installing and updating

The installer downloads Omabib from GitHub, and Omabib can download rclone from rclone.org. Those sites see the download request.

6Removing access

Choose Stop syncing this computer in Omabib's Sync dialog, then remove Omabib or rclone where you signed in. Deleting ~/.local/share/omabib removes your library from your computer.

7Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions: atomashevic@gmail.com, or open an issue.
